Mute your microphone everywhere, with one shortcut

One big button, or one global shortcut, mutes your default microphone in Windows, so “every app hears silence”. The notch shows whether you are live or muted.

What it does

  • Mute in Windows itself
It mutes your default microphone at the system level, so it works in every app. If no microphone is plugged in, it says “No microphone”.
  • Push to talk
On by default. While muted, hold the shortcut to talk; a quick tap just toggles.
  • You always know
The notch shows live or muted (always, or only when muted). Optionally it appears while you are muted so you notice before you speak.
  • A dot when another app listens
A green dot on the notch shows while another app is using your camera or microphone. It reads Windows' own privacy records and does not poll.
  • Camera mirror
Start preview to check framing and lighting. “Only you see this. Nothing is recorded.”

Shortcuts

They work in any app. Change any of them in Settings > Shortcuts.

  • Mute or unmute (hold while muted for push to talk)

Good to know

Limits and defaults, stated plainly.

  • The tab is labelled Preview in the dock.
  • Voice memos refuse to record while your microphone is muted, and tell you why.
