A temporary shelf for the files you are moving around

Dragging a file between two windows that are far apart is awkward. Park it on the Shelf, go where you are going, and drag it out.

What it does

  • Drag toward the notch
The panel opens on the Shelf under your cursor and dropping adds the files. Folders count as one item. Only files and folders from your PC can be dropped; text, links and web pictures are refused with a message.
  • New downloads appear by themselves
Files that land in your Downloads folder are added once they stop growing. Partial files such as .crdownload and .part are ignored. Only Downloads is watched.
  • Originals are never touched
“Your originals are never copied, moved or deleted.” Removing something only takes it off the Shelf.
  • Share with the Windows share sheet
Share opens the standard Windows share sheet (Nearby Sharing, Mail and whatever else is installed) for the selected files.

Good to know

Limits and defaults, stated plainly.

  • Holds up to 500 files, up to 200 per drop. Keep files for 1 hour, 6 hours, 24 hours (default), 3 days, 7 days or until removed. Pinned files stay.
  • The notch shows “Shelf 2” for new files nobody has looked at, and glows while you drag files over it.
  • Screenshot folders are not watched.
